English test: settlement on or after 28th October 2013

Post by Salim1uk » Tue Feb 21, 2017 2:14 pm

Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone can clarify:

My wife applied for ILR in January 2015 based on the old rules. and ILR was granted end of April 2015.

She submitted the A2 English certificate at the time and the Life in the UK certificate.

Can she still use this A2 English certificate to apply for Naturalisation considering she applied before all the rule changes initially or does she need to pass the new B1 test from approved providers

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks
Salim

Not sure how she got ILR with A2 as B1 is required for both ILR and British Citizenship.

Sorry my mistake,

It was the Entry 3 ESOL Speaking and Listening by Ascentis, which is B1 i believe.

Can this still be use for naturalisation?

Not sure as ESOL is no longer accepted by HO since November 2015.

Even though ILR was granted in 2015 based on the old rules when spouse visa was issued.

From the link:

" It doesn’t matter if the B1 level test you took isn’t on the current list of recognised tests. You don’t need to take another test."

Can anyone clarify please?

You tick the box that says she got ILR after 28 October 2013, which is fine. But remember that HO can at any point ask her to provide evidence of her English test.

Rather not take the risk, I think we will get another test done.

Thanks for the help.
