Hi there,
I am in a difficult situation and require some guidance here please from those of you who are far more clued up than I am.
In Nov 2015, I (a solely British citizen at this point) entered Ireland with my Japanese husband and began working. My husband got his 5 year residency card for Ireland and after a year I applied for - and received - my Irish passport as I was born In Northern ireland and after Brexit though it may be useful for the future. Please note I have never lived in the republic and was only in N.Ireland for a few months after my birth before moving back to England; my family are all British only.
After a change in circumstances with my family back home in England we decided to move to the UK and applied for and received a FP and moved to England a couple of weeks ago.
I can see now that by getting my Irish passport I may have completely jeopardized the entire SS route and I know that on the UKRC application I will need to state that I have dual citizenship. I fear they will refuse the RC and claim we didn't carry out route as was in my 'home country' but this confuses me as I have never lived in Ireland and I was under the impressions that if you're a British dual citizen you're treated as 'only British'. I know that if I had tried to enter the UK on irish passport this would not have worked but need clarification on what i should do now.
My husband has fortunately already secured a well paid job here and I'm currently job hunting for something over the income requirement just in case, but my questions is should I renounce my Irish citizenship or even by doing so will the HO find out and deny anyway?
Under a huge amount of stress and any help would be greatly appreciated.
