Hi everyone!
I am an Indian citizen holding a valid Indian passport since my birth in India in 1989.
However, I am also a British citizen by birth having been born to a British father.
Now, I have decided to exercise my right as a British citizen and apply for my first adult British Passport. Since I reside in India, is it better for me to apply from outside the UK or should I get a standard visitor visa and make an application from inside the UK.(I have some distant family members in the UK with whom I can stay). The standard time for getting a passport is 6 weeks from inside UK and 16 weeks from outside UK. However, my immigration adviser told me yesterday that passport applications from outside the UK are taking much longer than expected nowadays and have a higher chance of rejection. Is this true?
On the other hand, I read a post on another immigration forum which said that the Home office might reject my application made from inside the UK on the grounds that if I am already a British citizen then I should not be entering the country on a visitor visa. I already have 2 visitor visas from my earlier trips to the UK stamped in my current Indian passport. Does this hamper my chance of getting a British passport?
Any advice regarding the above issue would be highly appreciated.
TIA
