british passport for a child/parent british citizenship

Post by londoner2009 » Thu Mar 16, 2017 10:05 am

Hello there, hope you all are fine.

Hope you will be able to help me in my " Catch 22" situation.

We both- parents come from Poland, my partner registered as self employed in 2005 , I in 2007. Our daughter was born in 2009 and we weren't able to get a BC for her. But then I was naturalized in 2014 and got British Passport in 2015. Now, I read in the guide that if one of the parents becomes a BC and the child may also become one. Called passport office several times and home office as well they weren't able to help as they still treat my daughter only as a child of EU citizens. what is your knowledge about it, please?

Thank you,
Londoner2009

Was child born in the UK??

Your child is not British so cannot apply for a passport. You have to register the child as British first on form MN1.

Ok, so I understood that firstly I have to register her-MN1 or wait till she is 10 and then this will apply?:

A person born in the United Kingdom after commencement who is not a British citizen by virtue of subsection (1) [F9, (1A)] or (2) shall be entitled, on an application for his registration as a British citizen made at any time after he has attained the age of ten years, to be registered as such a citizen if, as regards each of the first ten years of that person’s life, the number of days on which he was absent from the United Kingdom in that year does not exceed 90.

And in both cases it will cost me about £1000?

Please respond as it is so confusing to me. Thanks

And what if do not have any of these:
evidence of parent’s settled status since the applicants birth, such as: o an indefinite leave to remain (ILR) stamp in a passport o a Home Office letter o a no time limit stamp o a biometric residence permit (BRP) confirming ILR ?
I do have my brirtish passport of course :)
Thanks

Evidence of a parent's British citizenship will also do.
