No passport but need to travel

Post by Rex Banner » Tue Mar 21, 2017 9:43 am

I am a student and next week my class will be travelling to France and Spain for 3 days as part of the course

I was born in the UK, but have never held a british passport

I have applied for a british passport, however it will not come in time

I hold a passport of the nationality of my parents.. i do not have idr

is there anyway i can travel abroad? I am prepared to try whatever?

Would travel via train, coach or anyother means be an option?

If you would normally need a visa to travel to an EU country on your foreign passport, then that would be the only way.

Ok, it does not look like I will be able to attend the trip

I called regarding a Spanish visa and they do not have any slots avaiable

I was born in the UK, have lived here all my life... but have recently found out that I am not actually british because my parents were not settled in the UK at the time of my birth

But allegedly if i was born before 1983, I would be classified as British. Something does not feel right with the UK laws

Applying for a BP has been a long and stressful journey

Thank you for your help

Are you British?

If you were born from 1983 and not automatically British, then perhaps you should register before applying for a British passport.

I was born in England and have lived here all my life, but I have been told that I am not British, due to my parents not being settled at the time of my birth

Thank you for your link. A few months ago, I registered for British Citizenship (via Form T) together with my Passport using the JCAP service from my local council

Unfortunately, these documents will not come in time for the school trip next week..
While I have a foreign passport, this appears to be useless as I cannot obtain a visa

Also, I believe that as I do not have IDR, this may have been an issue too

The laws are disappointingly tough. But I guess I only have myself to blame. I always assumed that if I was born in the UK, I would be able to apply for a 1st British Passport the conventional way and that this would come within 6 weeks

Instead, I have had to see various immigration experts, gather documents and send evidence to HO, proving I was in the UK for the 1st ten years of my life.

Please correct me if I am wrong

According to EuroStar I can travel to France visa free as long as I have a valid passport of any nationality. So I believe that I will be able to travel with my class in France

Getting to Spain, however may be a problem

What about getting back in the UK?

Eurostar?

I assume that this will not be possible? Is it because I do not have IDR?

If returning back to the UK will not be possible, I assume that I should forget about this school trip?

It is just 3 days, but am i right in saying that a British passport is the only way?

If returning back to the UK will not be possible, I assume that I should forget about this school trip? Likely yes.

It is just 3 days, but am i right in saying that a British passport is the only way? Correct, or a Schengen visa, but you don't have time for that.

Are you a visa national for the UK? If they admit you as a visitor, then you may encounter all sorts of problems with schools, until you successfully register as British.

UK immigration may check your foreign passport to see if you have any leave to enter or remain in the U.K. Without valid leave, they may refuse you entry!

You could try to enter under A280(b), 304-309. You would need the documents to prove eligibility.

But Immigration Officers may not be very familiar with these rules.

Probably not worth the potential hassles for a 3-day trip.

Thanks CR001 and Vinny

I now understand that there is no chance of me going.. and even if I do manage to get there I may not be able to re-enter the UK. Which is an even worse situation

Dissapointed, but it's just a few days as mentioned and it is my fault

Oh, I assumed that the Schengen visa would not allow me entry to the UK as they are not part of the agreement

Is this correct?

I meant Schengen visa for Europe. But yes, getting back into the UK would be difficult.
