BRP update

Post by KristiK » Wed Apr 05, 2017 1:33 pm

Hello everyone, was wondering if anyone can help me with my query.

I'm living in the UK under Spouse Visa (leave to remain). I've recently changed my surname in my passport (I took my husband's surname). I haven't changed my passport yet. The consular representative just put a sticker with my new surname in my passport. My front page still displays my maiden surname and my visa is under my maiden surname too. I'm planning to travel next month and not quite sure under what surname I need to book my tickets. To avoid any confusion at the border I thought to book my tickets under my maiden surname to match my visa. I'm aware that I need to update my BRP withing 3 months, so I planned to do that as soon as i get back from holidays. Would it be alright to travel under my maiden surname or there is a problem?

Thank you in advance.

Your maiden name as that is what is on your passport biometric page.

You need a new passport and then a new BRP.

Thank you foe your message. I've been told that I'm not supposed to change my passport at the moment as it's valid till July next year. I'm only allowed to apply for a new passport 6 months prior to expiry date unfortunately.

Right I see. So as far as I understand it's ok to travel under my maiden surname and there is no need to apply for a new BRP because I haven't been issued with a new passport?
