ILR - T2 General - Private Health Insurance

Post by anub2016 » Sun Apr 09, 2017 7:37 pm

Hi,

I'm currently on the Tier 2 General visa which was granted on 8 March 2016.

Could the Moderators/Experts please advise if I need to take a Private Health Insurance in order to be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain?

I had, however, paid a sum of £1000 towards the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) at the time of my Tier 2 General application. Am I eligible for free NHS service in the UK?

Many Thanks.

Many Thanks.

Worth noting that the free NHS doesn't include prescription or medicine cost... meaning doctor/GP will see you for free but if they give prescription then you pay a fixed amount (can't recollect how much) for it, plus medicine costs.

Children don't need to pay the above and in some circumstances you may get exemption certificate i.e. if you have long-term condition (thyroid, diabetes, etc.).
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Please check your facts before you post. It is a flat rate for prescriptions at £8-50 per medicine item. There is NO additional 'plus medicine costs'.
