British Citizenship

Post by bgk_ » Sat Apr 22, 2017 4:37 pm

I am 19years old, came in this country(UK) as a minor on 15/11/11 on an "indefinate leave to enter visa" which i acquired through my mum who had "indefinate leave to remain visa". I have been in UK ever since i was granted my visa. My mother is due to apply for her British Citizenship in August 2018.

- My visa is valid from 15/11/11 to 03/05/2020.
- My foreign passport expires on 05/05/20

I would like to apply for my British citizenship.

Never been in trouble so characterise i should be ok.

Can i apply for my British passport now? Or do i have to wait till August 2018 to apply with my mum?

Many thanks

You are considered an adult now and your application is NOT dependent on your mother.

As an adult, if you meet all the requirements you can apply now based on 5 years residence, meet the English B1 requirement and LIUK test.

You must apply to naturalise as British before you can get a British passport.

Why is your mother only applying in August if she has had Indefinite Leave to Remain for so long??

Thanks CR001 for your response.

Both my mother and i we were to apply for naturalisation in 2013 but she had an issue under good character which meant she has to wait another 5years which is due in Aug 2018.

In terms of proving work for the last five years what would i fill in the form as i only been working part time as i am a student and only had my NI for 3years.

Any idea please anyone?

You only need to complete the work information that you have done and state student for rest of time.

Have you got LIUK and English B1 test??

Make sure you book the SELT B1 English test at an HO approved test provider otherwise it won't be accepted.

You can also apply at NCS (nationality checking service) at your council and they offer the JCAP scheme (joint citizenship and passport application) where you apply for both at the same time.
