FLR(IR) Depender Joiner on Ancestry Success

Post by awo » Tue May 09, 2017 5:30 pm

Here's a little story about my success after a very stressful two months 8)

Thought I would post this in here as it was super hard to find any info on the FLR(IR) visa as it was introduced last year I believe.

My partner and I moved over from New Zealand 2 years ago, her on a 5 year ancestry visa, and me on a 2 year Youth Mobility visa. We are 26-27.

We booked out appointment on a Friday morning in Birmingham, and went up and stayed on the Thursday evening to avoid any added travel stress.

I work for myself as the director of my own limited company, and my partner has a full time salary job. Below are a list of documents we took to prove our relationship over two years, and both of our incomes:

1 x Application form and proof of bookings and payment including IHS payment
2 x Original passports (which showed the remaining time of her visa I was applying to join)
6 x Months bank statements for both of us
6 x Months Payslips for both of us
My VAT registration
My company registration certificate
My dividend vouchers
My registration documents from my accountant
P60s
P45s
All work contracts we have had in London stating salaries and day rates
2 x lease agreements from London with both our names listed
2 x reference letters from those landlords
1 x reference letter from current landlord saying they are happy to extend our lease subsequent to visa approval (important)
3 x proof of address in London with our names shown 2-3 times at each
1 x proof of address in New Zealand
1 x Travel itinerary and insurance papers from our travel on the way to London (2.5 month trip)
20 x photos with location and year showing our relationship over two or more years (Instagram or Facebook fine)
2 x personal references

Photocopies of everything in a separate folder or bag.

The whole waiting process took about 2 hours at the centre, and then we were sent away for about another 2.5 hours before getting a phone call.

Try and relax and you should be fine (I know its hard to!)

Any questions fire away and I will try and help!

Hi,

Thank you so much for posting this, I am now feeling 'a little' confident about my own application. My Partner has a UK Ancestry Visa and I have a 2 year Youth Mobility Visa (which is coming to an end). We qualify for an unmarried dependant Visa but are unsure about a few things if you didn't mind clarifying:

1. How did you complete the FLR(IR) form? e.g. how did you distinguish that you were a joiner and not that both of you were applying from the start again?

2. Were there any changes to your Partners' visa? e.g Leave to remain.

Thanks,
Ed.

Hey! I’m hoping you can help me! I am just in the process for applying for this visa in this exact same scenario and just had a few questions. My two year visa is about to expire so clipping on to my boyfriends ancestry visa. When you apply how many years do they give the dependent? He is 18months into his ancestry visa as had to renew it while we’ve been in the Uk. So would I get 5 years or would I just get the amount of time he has left on his? Also how much was the nhs charge for the dependent when you guys applied?

Thanks! This process is so confusing and this is the only success story that matches ours!!

You should rather start your own topic instead of tagging onto a year old one where the original poster has only ever posted once and not visited the forum since.

You get a visa (if approved) to expire at the same time as your partner. Presumably as unmarried, you have rock solid evidence of 2 years cohabitation.
