Old English and Life in UK test

Post by anandvincent78 » Wed May 10, 2017 10:55 am

Hi All,

My wife passed the IELTS test for General Training and based on this she got a 'dependent of settled person' visa in 2014. She now needs to apply for an ILR based on the 10 year route. Can she utilize the same english test certificate that she obtained in 2014 for the ILR application. From other posts I think this is possible as she has previously satisfied the English language requirements as part of another visa application. But would like to confirm that this is still valid in her case. She also took the life in UK test in 2014 as it was supposed to valid life long. I hope nothing has changed to invalidate this as well?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Anand.

She needs SELT IELTS B1 for ILR. Spouse settlement visa only requires English A1.

LIUK does not expire.

Her English test details are as follows: IELTS General Training.
Overall Band: 6.0
Listening: 5.5
Reading: 5.0
Writing: 5.5
Speaking: 8.0

I am not sure if this satisfies level B1. How can I verify that?

I am still having a few doubts. Please clarify:
The instructions on this HO website (https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications) states that expired qualification at B1 level is still accepted if its on the current list of recognised tests and it was accepted for another UK immigration application.
We satisfy all the conditions except there is one minor thing. What my wife took was an IELTS test and not a IELTS SELT test. But are they both same and will an expired IELTS test certificate still satisfy the english language test requirement for the settlement visa?

You should be fine with your existing IELTS test. Just double check that the IELTS test centre is on the list of the approved test centres:

B1 level is equivalent to score 4.0 and you have higher score in both speaking and listening.

Thanks for all your replies. I called HO and one of their representatives said that the old one would probably not be recognised now as IELTS is not the same as IELTS SELT. So my wife has taken the Trinity College London Grade 5 exam at B1 level. The whole process was quite easy and quick. i.e., we could get a test appointment almost immediately. The test did not require much preparation at all. Though we did prepare, one can just go directly talk for 10 minutes and pass it. And the test certificate reached home within a week after the test.
