Applied for wrong visa...what are my options?

Post by b1234567 » Sun May 28, 2017 7:53 pm

Hello,

I am sponsoring my wife who lives in Pakistan for a spouse visa to join me in the UK.

Today i decided to submit the online application, paid the fee, not realising that I had actually applied for a Marriage Visa rather than a settlement [spouse] visa - I realised this once I saw there was no option to pay the IHS. It hadn't hit me at the time that the fee was slightly less than i expected it to be but my mistake i guess. I'm so upset and worried about what to do next. Has anybody fallen into the same situation or knows how I can fix this? Is it possible to cancel an application and start over, bearing in mind this was only done this morning.

I'd really appreciate some guidance on this one.

Thanks

The difference in fee is a lot more than 'slightly less'.

What is the fee you were charged (in ££)? You should have been charged £1464 visa fee.

I paid £1419.27 for the application fee. I'm so confused as to what I've done. I just wanna start over, is that even a thing?

What does your application say that you printed out?

hi,

The application says,

Type of Visa: Settlement
Type of Application: Marriage

At the time I thought this was what I was supposed to do. But I'm guessing not. I never actually printed out this application as I realised before I got to that stage that actually, I've got the wrong end of the stick, and maybe this isn't the correct visa.

It should be :

Settlement
>Settlement
>>Wife

You appear to have applied for a fiance visa, which is only valid for 6 months and does not require IHS to be paid but is the same price as a spouse visa.

Oh okayy. Thanks for that, I've been so baffled all day as to what on earth I have done. In terms of a solution then, what are the next steps to take in order to rectify what I've done? Can I get that money back or should I just consider that gone? How do I go about cancelling this application and starting a new one for the correct visa type?

Thanks

Yes you will need to cancel it and request a refund and make a new application.

Okay great. Thankyou CR001, you've been really helpful. Do I have to wait for this application to cancel and receive the refund before I can progress with the correct visa type? And in terms of timescales, do you know how long it takes?

Thankyou, feel so relieved that there is a solution to my slip up.

Refunds can take a while so be prepared.

If you cancel, suggest wait a few days and then make a new online application and you will have to pay again plus the IHS.

That's alright, I'm more concerned about getting this new application right than the money. With regards to "if you cancel", is that a few days after putting the request in or a few days after getting a confirmation (if that's what happens)

Thankyou CR001

To be honest, I am not sure if you get a notification, I am sure you do though. You can then reapply.

Suggest before you click submit on the new application, check with us on the forum again to be doubly sure.
