Canadian citizen with Irish partner (unmarried)

Post by dalycanuk » Tue Feb 05, 2008 6:41 pm

Hi - Hoping that you can help me out. I'm Canadian been living in Ireland for 4 years with a stamp 3 that I've renewed each year. My partner is Irish but we aren't married. I'm desperate to get a stamp 4 or find some way to be able to work. Is marriage the easiest or only option? Also how long would it take to issue a stamp 4 if we decide to get married? I've read everything from 10 minutes to over 10 months.

Also can I apply for citizenship through naturalization once I have been here for 5 years if I've only been granted stamp 3?

Any advice? Thanks

I doubt stamp3 will allow you to become naturalized.

As you can see we already talked about it here.
Irish do not recognise it like other countries may do, therefore short of full rights.
Is marriage the easiest or only option?
It would make sense to just do that
