Residency for parent

Post by Zena285 » Mon Jun 26, 2017 9:56 pm

Hi

I'm hoping somebody out there can help me. I've spent the last 2 months trying to find an answer but none of the information on gov.uk applies.

My father-in-law is Lebanese. He would like to move to the UK to be near to my wife and his son. He has a new younger wife and two young children under 6 and obviously he would like them to come too.

My wife and her brother are both British and both now have children with new additions on the way. Their father would like to move closer to have a relationship with his grandchildren.

I've looked for guidance on what route to take but I can only find information for parents that are dependent on their children. He wouldn't be. He has enough money to buy a property and his business income is more than enough for him to live without help.

Is there a way for parents to move to the uk if they aren't dependent and their children are over 18, or is it something the UK simply doesn't allow? They all have 10 year visitor visas if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

He would have to qualify for a visa in his own right, i.e. Tier 1 Entrepreneur maybe. You are correct, there is no 'chain migration' to the UK for parents of British citizens unfortunately. Even adult dependent relatives stand almost no chance since the rules were made so hard in July 2012. With a wife and young children, he certainly won't qualify for this.
