DOCUMENTS REQUESTED BY STUDENT FINANCE AFTER MNI APPLICATION

Post by Shanaz Ali » Tue Jun 27, 2017 12:02 pm

Dear Respected members

I have applied for Registration as British national for my son (who turned 18 after application) since 22/3/2017. Have not received the approval as yet :( :(.
In the meantime my son should be progressing to the University and I have applied for student finance. They need evidence of my son's status.
I did write to them explaining that all ORIGINAL documents including passport, BRP and birth certificate are with Home office and I sent them the original acknowledgement letter which was received in my name.

However they wrote to me again asking for status of my son since September 2014 to September 2017. They want ORIGINALS ONLY.

my query is:

I still have my sons ORIGINAL BRP (of course now expired) which was an PBS dependant w.e.f. march 2013 to march 2016. This was returned while considering our ILR application. Home office did not mention anywhere that we should destroy this after receiving the ILR BRP (which is now with home office with the current application of MNI for my son)

Is it alright to send this document. I don,t want to create any complication while our application is being considered.

Thanks for your valued advise as always.

There was a Dispatches programme about similar cases on Channel 4 last night and unfortunately there's not a lot you can do but submit what the university is requesting and if you fail to meet their deadline your son will either have to sit it out for a year, unless you can afford the full whack this year. Thousands of children in similar situation. If the BRP is expired they are highly unlikely to accept it but I'm sure it won't affect your current application. You could also try requesting your documents back without withdrawing your application here https://eforms.homeoffice.gov.uk/outrea ... ments.ofml

Good luck.

The possibility exist to request the return of documents, without it affecting the registration.

Was your child born in the UK?

Thanks for the above responses.

No he was not born in UK. He has been a UK resident since 2006 first as a dependant of student, then Tier 2 defendant and now ILR since 2015, Not been out of country for more than a total 30 days in the last 11 years.

You should have applied using NCS if you knew you might need the original documents.

Well the ILR BRP can be used.

I don't usually send original documents for registration. Photocopies of BRP and passport suffices, and Home Office never request it.

However you can request it.

Thanks CR001.
I know but at that point of time, could not get an NCS appointment before my son turned 18. Had I waited then it would have meant that my son had would had to have LIUK and Knowledge of English. It was a catch 22 situation. I do remember mentioning it on one of my earlier posts in March before submitting it.

Will speak to SFE and hope for the best. I applied on 22nd March so am hoping some positive news in couple of weeks. Fingers crossed till then.

Understandable, you could have used any NCS but it was also a bad time of year with applications being submitted shortly before the fee increase.

Yes as long as they no longer have use for the originals they will post them back in as little as 7-10 days, I requested my partner's documents and got them back in 7 days. Click on the link on my post above and follow the instructions.

Hello all

Just to update on the above, I asked for return of documents on 4th of July without withdrawing the application and I received my documents back today 11th July 2017. Wasnt expecting them back so soon, but I am not complaining :D
I had only asked to the BRPs but the Home office sent back ALL documents that I had submitted with the application in the prepaid envelope (special delivery) that I had enclosed with my application.
There was a cover letter as well which stated in part:

''Thank you for sending these documents in support of your application for BC. Please find your documents enclosed as requested.
However, once work begins on your application, we may need to request
them again but please do not send them until we write to you requesting them.
Applications are considered broadly in order of receipt and dealt with as quickly as possible...........''

I had applied on 22nd March, received by Ho 23/3/2017, Bio metrics done 5th April 2017 (had posted full details on March Timeline)
As at today my online status remains Awaiting decision updated 25th May 2017.
