Agree. This is the same information I got when researching for a friend with a Dutch father who has not lived in Holland for in excess of 40 years. His children couldn't get a Dutch passport.secret.simon wrote:While I am no expert on it, Dutch nationality seems particularly easy to lose.
As I understand from the links in that thread, Dutch nationality is lost if
a) A foreign non-EEA nationality is voluntarily acquired (So, how did your father acquire his Canadian nationality?)
b) the Dutch citizen resides outside the EEA and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (including the Caribbean Netherlands) for ten years without being in possession of a Dutch passport.
Again, I am no expert, but there is a reasonably good chance that your father lost his Dutch nationality long ago.
Thanks for the links. It looks like being a student in NL isn't good enough to bring along my wife. I'd need a lot of money or actual work.Dutch citizen
