Financial Requirement: Salary + Annual Bonus - Cat A or B?

Post by roberts07 » Wed Jul 19, 2017 12:24 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm just about to finalise everything for my wife's visa (US Citizen) immigrating to the UK.

Situation: I have been working at my current employer for over 3 years, currently earn a salary of £17,500 but with a guaranteed minimum annual bonus of £4800 paid every August. My p60 reflects that I surpass the minimum recruitment for £18,600, my monthly pay check is £1458 but August pay checks show the bonus and have a letter from my employer testifying to this annual bonus.

Do I need to apply under category A or B?

My understanding it would be B because I have a variable income and would need to show my annual income is more than £18,600 over a 12 mont period. I believe I would need to provide 12 months worth of pay slips, highlighting the August bonus, a p60 demonstrating my income is over £18,600 and a letter from my employer (I have done this already but just want to be 100% sure).

Is this correct??

I am also due a basic salary pay rise to £22,000 in September but need to apply for the VISA now for various reasons.

I'd really appreciate any advice!!

Usually a minimum of £1550 need each month to qualify but if you have still got earned £9300 during the last 6 months including bonus then I think you can still qualify under category A non-salaried person (if you are with your present UK employer from last 6 months)
However if you wish can also apply under category B where you would have to show 12 months payslips & bank statements.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Hi Seagul,

Thank you very much for your response! My issue is that my guaranteed bonus which takes me over the threshold comes every August (not in the last 6 months before application). I have 12 months of pay slips and bank statements that clearly highlight the annual august bonus and a signed letter from my employer confirming the bonus.

So if I apply under category B and provide 12 months of pay slips & bank statements + P60 showing a income over £18,600 will this be ok?

Yes if you are happy with category B then as advised above can apply but make sure to indicate your route to caseworker clearly.

Thanks again seagul and I appreciate your help.

Is there any particularly reason I wouldn't be happy with category B? Besides the fact it involves more admin heavy paper work!
