Does your visa say 'no recourse to public funds'?

Thanks CR001 I am just asking on behalf of my friend on his circumstances he been told by lawyer he will grant DSL because his kids born here and living here more than seven years

If the visa says no recourse to public funds, which is probably does, then unlikely they can claim benefits. They would have to write to HO to ask for the restriction to be removed but no guarantee that it will.
