Entry to the UK before starting Tier 2

Hi,

My friend got a Tier 2 general. She is starting employment 10/08 but needs to enter the UK from Canada, in transit to Croatia on 27th or 28th July for a night or two. She will then return to the UK several days before starting employment.

I understand that she can enter under Tier 2 14 days before beginning employment, but has to get the BRP within 10 days which she will not be able to do because she will be in Croatia.

Is there an issue her transiting via UK before starting her Tier 2?

She can only enter on her tier 2 general from the date that it is valid and visa is stamped and activated. Only then will she be able to collect her BRP card within 10 days.

Risky trying to enter the UK as a visitor so close to the start of her visa.

Not really transiting if she is planning on staying for 'a night or two' and she will have to be admitted as a visitor.
