How long you will stay in UK - Tier 2 VISA application

Hello,

I am presently on Tier 5 dependent VISA. My wife is working and her VISA is valid till August 2018. Now I am switching my Visa from dependent to tier 2 general shortage occupation. In the application, visa type is for 3 year and 5 year. I have selected 3 years tier 2 visa. My job contract is for 6 months, which my employer has stated that can be extended however they have provided me COS certificate for 6 months only.
In the application, there are 2 questions 1. How long you intend to stay and 2. How long you will stay ?
How should I answer these questions keeping in mind that my wife will be staying till August 2018 and I am planning to stay atleast till my wife stays in uk ?

You will only get a visa for the duration of your CoS, so 6 months but will have to pay for the 'up to three years' application.
