Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa

Hello,

my Australian boyfriend is applying for a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa from the Netherlands where he's been living and working for the past 8 months. We can't find much informations about it and our plan was to leave the Netherlands at the end of August as in September we've booked a big trip to Italy.
Does anyone know if they take your passport for the application?
If so, how long does it take to return it?
Does he have to be in the country within 30 days since the visa is accepted?
How long does it take to get the biometric appointment in the Netherlands?

He has to submit his passport and gets it back once visa is either approved/refused.

Does he have to be in the country within 30 days since the visa is accepted?

He will get a 30 day validity visa and he must enter the UK within that time and collect his BRP card within 10 days of arriving.
