Spouse visa BRP renewal

Post by limey10 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 11:39 am

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

My wife's BRP is due for renewal in June 2018. I know you can't start thinking about these things too soon so could anyone tell me, how long before expiry can we apply for the extension? Logic tells me 3 months, but since when does logic have anything to do with immigration?

All replies gratefully received.

Thanks, Phil

Hi CR001,

As mentioned in the post title, my question is about the Spouse Visa BRP renewal timeline.

If you know the answer, or could tell me where to find that information, I would be most grateful.

Thanks, Phil

A BRP renewal is something completely different to a spouse visa renewal.

Your post is not clear at all, which is likely why no one else has commented.

Why does your spouse need to renew her BRP?

You have posted your question in the Family Immigration sub forum, the assumption is that she is there on a spouse visa route (2 x 2.5 year visas).

Hi CR001

You assume correctly. Her spouse visa was issued in the form of a BRP, which gives all of the valid from/valid to details etc.

Does this help?

Thanks, Phil

And what is the expiry date listed on the BRP card?

She has to apply for a spouse visa extension (costs £993 plus £500 IHS). A BRP card renewal is not the same thing (costs around £60)

When you say extension, I assume you men FLR (is that correct?).

Also, you didn't mention, but i'm reading elsewhere that she can apply no sooner than 28 days before her 30th month in the UK. Does that sound right and if so, would that be at the start of her 30th month or after 30 full months have completed.

Thanks, Phil

Form FLR(M) yes.

Within 28 days of reaching 30 months yes and before her visa expires.

Thanks CR001

I'm just reading about the new English language level required for visa extension (another can of worms to contend with).

Yes she needs A2 English and you have to meet the same financial requirement again too.

You also have to submit evidence of cohabitation subsisting marriage for the two years preceding the application date. Page 63/64 of the form will give you examples of what HO expect to see.
