'British by Descent' guidance query

Post by Tom49 » Fri Aug 25, 2017 11:10 am

Hi, my grandfather was born in the UK in 1921. He moved to Australia and married my grandmother to whom my mum was born in 1948. From what I can gather my mum could claim to be 'British by descent'. But because I was born in Australia in 1969 she would not be able to pass BC to me as I was born outside the UK. Is this always the case ?

If I wanted to spend some time working in the UK in the next few years, I assume that I could apply for a visa by ancestry because my grandfather was born in the UK. Are there any other options ?

Just curious but would appreciate some help from your forum regarding various options. My brothers have settled in the UK and are BCs and married with kids.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tom

Your mother cannot pass it on to you unfortunately.

Ancestry would be your best route.

The only other work visa option would be Tier 2 General which would tie you to one employer and far stricter requirements and rules than Ancestry visa.

Presumably your brother's followed the Ancestry visa route?

Thanks for the help. The ancestry route seems the best bet.
