No Cohabitation before marriage

Post by LondonBohemian » Wed Sep 06, 2017 5:20 pm

Good afternoon,

I tried to find the answer to my question in this forum but failed. So hopefully someone will be able to guide me in the right direction.

I am British and am getting married to my Algerian fiance next year. We met in London in 2013 (he was illegally here, but I didn't know at the time). We broke up, he eventually went back to Algeria, and we got back together in 2015, on a long distance relationship (I'm leaving out boring details).

Against all odds, we made it, and have our wedding booked next August in Portugal.

Obviously, we have never lived together, because well, I live here (and he doesn't have a UK visa), and he lives in Algeria (and I don't have an Algerian working visa). We see each other around the world every month/month and a half (with extensive travel records to prove, photos, etc), and share a credit card account (this is the only financial commitment we CAN have in common as we cannot open bank accounts on each other's countries without being resident there).

In sum, my question is:

Once we applied, we will obviously be married, present the marriage certificate etc BUT we will have not have cohabited (as asked by the form if I am not mistaken) - is this an issue? OR is this question only for unmarried partners? I don't think it's clear!

Thank you for any guidance!

You are not required to submit evidence of cohabitation if you are applying for the first spouse visa abroad shortly after marriage. 24 month mandatory cohabitation evidence is only for unmarried partner visas.

You need to submit evidence of communication, visits, photos etc.
