Tier 2 Extension for 5 years

Hello everyone,

I've been in Tier 2 General visa from November 2014 till now. To apply for Tier 2 extension my employer has assigned COS for 5 years starting this November.

I want to know If I'm eligible to apply for 5 year visa? The gov website says I should not be in tier 2 for more than 6 years. So If I apply for a 5 year visa now my total stay under Tier 2 would be 8 years?

Or Should I apply for a 3 year visa?

I really appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction.

You will not be granted a visa for any longer than a total of 6 years on Tier 2 General.

A 3 year CoS would have made more sense.

Since they have already assigned a 5 year COS, it is possible to amend the COS dates? Or should they give a new COS?

they cant amend the cos.
They can add a cos note, and say that they would like to change the start and end dates.
