Bringing my step son to UK from Nigeria

Post by Sarahasez » Thu Sep 14, 2017 7:27 am

Good morning all,

I really need some help. My husband was previously married in Nigeria and has a son who is now 16 years. He's finished school. My husband has a British passport and has been in the UK for over 10 years. He's missing his son terribly. Is there anyway we can get him to come and live with us permanently? I'd be grateful for any helpful advice. Many thanks 🙂

Your husband would have to prove Sole Responsibility (click) or the mother would have to legally give up her parental rights.

Many thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate it greatly. How easy is it to prove sole responsibility? That sounds like a potential grey area to me.

Ex wife is happy to give up parental rights - how do you achieve this? Writing a letter?

No grey area at all. Do click on the link I have provided.

No, giving up parental responsibility is not as easy as simply writing a letter.

Is your husband named on the childs birth certificate?

His name is on the birth certificate.

I did click on the link and have had a look at what it says. Proving sole responsibility seems a hard task. I am no expert, just seems that way to me
