Can Tier 2 visa be extended for 1 Year only?

Post by Strolsie » Fri Sep 15, 2017 12:43 am

Hi,

My Tier 2 general visa started on the 17th October 2016 en expires on 18 August 2021. This means that it is only valid for 4 years and 10 months. I need 5 years before I can apply for ILR, so my visa needs to be extended by at least 1 year to enable me to apply for ILR . Is this possible or can it only be done for 3 years. I don't want to pay for 2 more years if I have to settle by year 6.

Thanks

Did they come to the UK at the same time as you?

Just remember that the residency start date for ILR is different for you than what it is for dependents.

You can apply earlier as you would be covered by the 180 days absence per 12 month cycle and can use the date your visa was granted as a starting point.

Your dependents only start counting residency from the date they ENTERED the UK, so you need to make sure that when it comes to ILR, they meet the requirements of 5 years (minus max 28 days) from date of entry.
