Is my current visa still valid whilst waiting for my BRP to arrive?

Hi guys. I need an answer urgently. I'm on Tier 2 visa which expires in November 2017. I applied for a Tier 2 visa extension 8 weeks ago and have just received my passport back this morning. They have sent my BRP which starts on 14/10/2017 (according to the letter) separately which I have yet to receive. Is my current visa which expires in November still valid till 14/10/2017? I believe when you have a BRP, your previous visa will be cancelled. Does it get cancelled from 14/10/17 or it has already been cancelled? If it's the latter, doesn't that mean it would leave me without a visa for a month between now and 14/10/17? That doesn't seem right if that's the case. I'm planning to travel next week. Can I still use my current visa to reenter the UK till 14/10/17 when my BRP validity starts?

What was the start date of your CoS?

Are you extending with the same sponsor?

No I didn't ask for a post-dated visa. The start date on the CoS is 14/10/17 as well. Yes,same sponsor.

So your visa start date is the same date as the CoS start date, which I believe is normal.

I've not heard of post-dated BRPs, maybe that's specific to extensions only?

I recently changed employers and the date on my BRP was the date of the Premium Appointment, not CoS start date...
