How long can I stay on tier 2 visa?

Post by Cocoaliz » Sat Sep 16, 2017 11:24 am

Hello,

I first applied for tier 2 visa which started in nov 2013. Later I had to extend it in 2016 and now my visa expires in nov 2019. How long can I stay on tier 2 visa? I read in the gov.uk website that I can stay on it for 5 years and 14 days. However mine comes up to 6 years.

The overview page of tier 2 visa says:
You can come to the UK with a Tier 2 (General) visa for a maximum of 5 years and 14 days, or the time given on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter.

The extend your tier 2 visa section says:
You can apply to extend your visa for up to another 5 years, as long as your total stay is not more than 6 years.

Which is applicable in my case?

Thanks in advance

This is only referring to the maximum duration of tier 2 visa that can be granted at one time.

The overall maximum of stay on tier 2 visa is 6 years. This could be the old 3 +3 (as in your case) or 5 +1 (for those that got 5 years in their 1st tier 2 visa)

Can we leave the UK and reapply Tier2 entry clearance from my country of origin immediately after 6 years in Tier 2?

12 month cooling off period would apply.
