Is this scam?

Post by ssbib » Wed Nov 08, 2017 2:18 pm

Hello everyone,

A friend of my wife is currently living in the Philippines and is looking for work in England. She applied for a job and sent over some documents they requested and today she received an email. It states that they are waiting for a payment to insure her for travel to the UK. The fee £2000, however £1800 of this will be paid for by her employer with the remaining £200 for her to pay via Western Union. When this payment is made they will release her visa.

I have looked over the email and it seems fishy to me. Have any of you heard of anything like this? I tried locating a phone number for the employer in London so I could call and ask them but I can't find anything. If this DOES turn out to be a scam can any of you recommend any job sites or reliable ways of finding work here in the UK for a Filipino? She is interested in any type of work but would be happy working as a Nanny.

Thanks,

It is a scam. She probably should not have sent 'documents'.

A genuine HO approved Sponsor does not charge 'release her visa'. She has to apply for a work visa herself from her home country, it doesn't just miraculously appear.

She won't get a company to sponsor her as a 'nanny' unfortunately.

There also are no visas available to her for low skill level jobs.

What do you mean 'agencies'?

She can only work for a sponsor on PAYE. She cannot 'contract' on Tier 2 General.
