A question about the referees (British naturalisation)

Hi!

I know it's probably a stupid question but I want to be sure.

My employer will be my "professional referee" for the naturalisation application, is this fine or the professional referee needs to be someone that you know but not work with?

It depends what your referee does, i.e. job title, in the company?
needs to be someone that you know but not work with?
No such requirement.
