Spouse visa route changed after ILR

I am raising this on behalf of someone I know.

He was on ILR when he applied to bring his wife to the UK on a settlement visa route.
Later, he received a British passport and applied for his spouse visa extension.

Home office approved the spouse visa extension but put his spouse on a 5 year route because he did not have British passport when he sponsored his wife he had instead an ILR.

Can he appeal against it? if so how

It would help if you stated dates of spouse visa first issued, expiry dates etc and date of second application.

Spouse visa of ILR holder and British citizen is the SAME spouse visa. Either your 'friend' is confused or there is more to this than he/you are stating.

Or ask your 'friend' to register and ask/answer questions.
