Previously accepted English language certificates (ILR)

Post by howie1282 » Thu Nov 23, 2017 1:23 pm

Hello all,

Starting the painful and expensive process of ILR for my wife :D

Have been reading the guidance notes and am confused by the requirements for English language tests.

When we applied for further leave to remain, it was fairly clear that the home office would accept a certificate that has been "previously accepted" for an application - in our case this was entry clearance and the certificate was from a provider that is now struck off the list and expired.

Has anyone had any experience with attempting to use the same process for ILR? I am struggling to see if they will only accept the "previously accepted" certificate for FLR (M) or they will continue to accept the same certificate for ILR.

Or is it safer to simply take another test or get her degree approved by NARIC (more money :( )

Many Thanks,

The level of English is different for a spouse visa (A1/A2) to that required for ILR (B1) plus LIUK.

You don't state the level of the one she used previously??

Apologies - she has had just under 5 years of spouse visa to date.
The level achieved was that required for a spouse visa at the time in 2012 - she got c.97% in the test.
The irony of it is that she's a native english speaker from South Africa - can;t speak any other languages!

But what CEFR level was the test, A1, A2, B1 etc.

She will likely need a new test for ILR from an HO approved test centre.

Makes no difference that she only speaks English. SA is not on the English exempt list due to the 11 official languages of SA.
