Renewing Standard Visitor visa Without Expiring the previous visa

Hi, My father has a 6 month standard visitor visa and his visa expires february 2018. Can he renew his visa before february 2018 or does he need to wait until his visa to be expired to reapply standard visitor visa for 3 years.

Hi, Thank you for your reply, He is in his home country, Yes He has travelled using the current visa.He entered the uk on 23rd sept 2017 and left in october 7th 2017. He plans to come back december 2017 with the current visa and he will leave uk in the 31st december 2017.And he again intends to travel in march 2018. He wishes to see me and my brother and we both are currently in tier 4 general student visas. For now he has visited once and also intends to travel with the current visa as said above. Currently, this is his 1st UK visa.

If he has only ever had the one visitor visa, highly unlikely he will qualify for a 2 or 5 year visa. He needs to prove his travel and sticky to the rules of not residing in the UK on a visitor visa.
