EEA route for non-EU wife

Post by Somba » Thu Nov 23, 2017 2:14 pm

I am a EU citizen with fulls settlement status. I got married to my spouse in Somalia some months ago and she recently moved and is residing in UAE. She is a Somali national with a Somali passport. My question is what evidence/documents do I need to provide to the UK embassy in Dubai to bring her to live with me in the UK? Does EEA route apply to me? How long does it take to process and do I have to travel with her or if granted can she come into the UK by herself with the permit?

Your wife will have to apply for a Family Permit in the UAE, with that she will be able to join you in the UK .
If it is processed at Sheffield, probably too long, if not 2 to 4 weeks if it is processed in the UAE.
Timeline:
Fourth application sent 21.07.17
HO received 24.07.17
Paid on 25.07.17
Biometrics 23.08.17
COA received 07.09.17
Passports received 07.09.16
Status: Decided on 10.11.17
Documents returned 13.11.17 dated 09
RC 13.11.17 dated 09

Ok so basically we can go to the embassay in the UAE straight away and do it or do we have to make an appointment? The GOV.UK website has a EEA family permit you can fill out online but I take it because she is in the UAE I have to do it abroad? Thirdly with the EEA permit she can travel to the UK alone with it or do I have to accompany her?

Yes, you can fill the application on line, follow the steps, when you get to the payment page, keep going, it is free, then you get to the appointment booking page, decide when you want to get the appointment, then you can print the application form, or you can give the login details to your wife, if you are not together right now, she can print the application and take it to the VFS centre with her.
The link is for the VFS centre, you will find addresses for Dubai, or Abu Dhabi

She should be able to travel alone, to join you in the UK, that's the basis of a family permit, travel together or join you.

I can't seem to find an online version of the application. Would this be the right one?

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -form-vaf5

That is a paper copy to print out, isn't there one you can fill in online?

Online application form EEA family permit

Post by Somba » Thu Nov 30, 2017 12:13 pm

I cannot for the life of me find the online application form. There is this large form you can print out on the UKGOV website called VAF5 but I was told to fill the family permit online. When I go to the apply section of the GOV website it says you must apply online for the family permit

https://www.gov.uk/family-permit/apply - then when I click on apply online I get this page

https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa - Not one option there mentions the EEA family permit :?

At the bottom I can see a heading that says Apply for all other visas using Visa4UK. Firstly the person registering would it be me or my spouse whom I am trying to bring here on a EEA permit? Also the website mentions marriage visitor visa, would that be the EEA permit?

In addition to this how do I need to make an appointment for my application (in this case the Dubai) or can I do it here in the UK?

You need to register an account.
Apply for all other visas
Apply using the Visa4UK service for all other visas, including study and work visas.

Create an account on Visa4UK to apply for the first time.

Sign in to Visa4UK to apply if you already have an account.
Once you are logged in and get through the first two bits/pages, you select as follows :
Select Visa Type
Please select the correct visa category. When you select the visa category you want, we will ask you a series of questions to ensure you are applying for the correct visa.

Reason for Visit OTHER
*
Visa Type EEA/SWISS FAMILY MEMBER
*
Visa Sub Type FAMILY MEMBER OF AN EEA NATIONAL
*

Thanks, lastly do I fill in the application or would it be my spouse? I mean I can fill in on her behalf but in essence should the applicant be me (EU citizen) or my spouse (non-EU citizen)?

It is your spouse applying and the applicant so if you complete it, you need to do so as if you are her.

God what a confusing application form. It keeps repeating questions and in some places its not very clear if they mean the applicant or the spouse is being asked.

Is there an online guide for this application, don't want to get anything needlessly wrong.

Hi,

I hope both you and your wife are well and InshAllah your application went well.

I am in very similar situation to you. My wife is from Somalia too but she is now going tobEthiopia for the purpose of applying for the EEA Family permit.

I wanted to know brother how did your application go? And how did you find the online application form as I find it absolutely confusing. I am hoping you might be able to help me with a few step by step guide with the form.

Thank you in advance

Abdirahman
