Second job from current (the same) employer

Post by yudhidayak » Tue Dec 05, 2017 10:46 pm

Hi, I am UK Tier 2 visa holder with SOC 2119, working as a research fellow at University in the UK.
There is a vacancy for part-time lecturer from the University where I am currently working.

Can I work for the post under my current visa, without applying another visa for a second job?
Obviously, I will work less than time restriction, I plan to apply for max 8 hours/week.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Thank you very much.

PS. Apologise if this topic has been discussed, have tried to search it before posting. If this was discussed, please advise me the link. Thank you.

You can only do a second job in the same SOC code, presumably for someone other than your sponsor.

Thank you for your reply.

Just would like to elaborate a bit more if you dont mind,
In case of "second job from current employer", it has to be in the same SOC code?
So, the current employer cannot assign me for any job outside of my SOC code's job description?

Appreciate for any thoughts!

You are sponsor for a job on the SOC. My understanding is that you can ONLY work in that SOC. If you move or work in another SOC, you need another visa, usually with another sponsor as a supplementary job.

Dear CR001,
(Apologise I couldn't find your name).

The reason I asked this is actually there is a vacant part time lecturer post at the University I work.
I am a PhD, working as Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Tier 2 Visa, SOC 2119.
As discussed above, the SOC doesn't cover lecturing, so I am thinking to ask (if I got job offer) a sponsorship for the second job.
Questions:
- Can I apply a second Tier 2 Visa for a second job but part time? It seems that impossible to have two full time jobs, doesn't it?
- If yes, does it mean the minimum salary is pro-rata?

Appreciate your advise!

With regards,
Yudhi

You cannot have two tier 2 visas at the same time. And I doubt if you will be able to secure a visa for a part time job. Don't forget that there are criteria for the visa. Minimum salary, passing the RLMT etc.
I understand that going for the part time lecturing role might be good for your career but I guess you don't have such flexibility under tier 2.

Thanks for your reply Djsuccess,
but form the home office webpage:
=======
9. Taking a second job
You can take a second job on this visa if you’re working up to 20 hours a week in either:
- the same profession as your main job and at the same level
- a profession on the shortage occupation list
You can also do unpaid voluntary work.

Otherwise, you’ll need to apply for a new visa. You’ll need to be sponsored by your second employer and get a new certificate of sponsorship.
=======
Do you think there is a possibility to have a second visa?

Thank you and regards,
Yudhi

Is this part time lecturing job on shortage occupation list?

Is this part time lecturing job having the same SOC code as your current job?

If you cannot answer yes to one the questions, then you cannot take the part time lecturing job as a second job.
