further leave to remain English test

Post by rbsjp » Thu Dec 14, 2017 8:21 pm

My wife will apply for further leave to remain soon. I became British citizen through TIER 1, 5 year route, She will need a A2 English test. Can you take a IELTS academic test instead and get a higher score to prove that?

She must do a test that is on the HO approved test provider list. Any other test and she might face a refusal for not meeting the English requirement. IELTS Academic is not on the list as far as I can see.

by passing an approved test at or above the required CEFR level, with an approved
provider as set out in Appendix O to the Immigration Rules

The above is exact cut and paste from UXBA. Please have a look on the word above the required level

Also please note from the UKBA website

2.5. Applicants who already have a test certificate or result
A partner or parent applying for leave to enter or leave to remain is not required to provide
evidence of meeting the English language requirement if they have done so as part of a
successful previous application as a partner or parent

Note that there is no 'UKBA' anymore, it is HO or UKVI.

What level of English test did your wife complete when she applied for her spouse visa in 2015? If she completed A1 level, she is now required to do A2 as the rules changed in May this year.

Assuming your over 18 year old daughter is also applying for an extension and not living an independent life, she will also require the English test.
