Ancestry to IRL - am I eligible yet?

Post by gadfly271 » Sat Dec 16, 2017 2:07 pm

Hello. I'm an Australian citizen, living in the UK since September 2013. I am here on an Ancestry visa, my husband is on a Tier 2 visa and our son is here as his dependent. When we first moved to the UK, our son was very young, and being in a rural Welsh town, there weren't a lot of jobs available. Because of this, I didn't work for the first 13 months we were in the UK. Since the end of October 2014 I have been continuously employed, except for a 2 month gap when we moved from Wales to England and I needed to find a new job.

My questions is, can I apply for ILR in September 2018, as I have been here for 5 years, or will I need to apply to extend my ancestry visa and wait until I have 5 years of employment history in the UK to apply for ILR? Has anyone else been in a similar situaton recently? Thanks for your help.
