Newborn Passport from settled parents

Post by Whippino » Sat Dec 16, 2017 8:20 pm

Hello everyone.
I am confused about the steps to get a british passport to my newborn son.

In the Form MN1 GUIDE is written:
A child born in the UK to parents one or both of whom are settled in the UK at the time the child is born is automatically a British citizen otherwise than by descent and does not need to be registered.

BUT

In the webpage “Get a passport for your child” it says:
https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport ... d-passport

Your child must have British nationality to be eligible for a British passport.
What documents to send with your application
proof that your child has British nationality (for example a British registration certificate, parent’s passport details or parent’s birth certificates)

So how do I prove my child has British nationality? Is the British Registration Certificate the Form MN1?

Was your child born after you were granted ILR or before?

Yes.

But if your child was born WITHIN the UK AFTER you got PR, then the child is automaticall British and can apply for a passport directly.

But if the child was born in Italy as your previous posts indicate would be the case, then the child is NOT automatically British and will have to be registered at discretion as you were perviously advised.

Baby was born AFTER I've got the PR and he was born in UK.

so for my understanding the child is automatically British and can apply for a passport directly.

so back to my original question:

to Get a passport for your child:
proof that your child has British nationality (for example a British registration certificate, parent’s passport details or parent’s birth certificates).

if I don't need to apply the form MN1 how do I prove the British nationality?

Thanks

Proof that a parent had PR prior to baby's birth in the UK.

ok so no form MN1, I can apply directly for the passport and use the PR card as proof of British nationality for the child. Correct?

We're in the same situation and equally confused. We're both Polish and both had a PR before our daughter was born (she was born in the UK). So, she's automatically British. In which case, do we simply send our passports and PR cards with the passport application form? Do we send originals? Should we enclose a letter of some sort? There is no field/question on the passport application form where we could explain this. There is also no mention of what documents to send..
