British citizen marrying in India

Hi all. First post.

I am getting married in India in three months. It is an arranged marriage and we had an engagement ceremony two months ago. The wedding will be in India.

I am British and was born in the U.K. My partner is Indian.

Can anyone advise:

1. Which documents I need to marry in the state of Punjab and any registration requirements
2. How I can apply for a UK permanent visa for my wife
3. What documents and supporting evidence I need
4. Which visa she needs to apply for and how long it takes
5. Can she work in the U.K. after the visa is approved?

1. I cannot answer that. Your would be better off asking about Indian process in the 'Other Countries' sub forum further down the main page.

2. She won't qualify for a 'permanent' visa. She gets a temporary visa and has to live in the UK and be married for 5 years before she can get permanent residence. You need to meet the financial requirement of £18,600pa and she needs English A1 test from an HO approved test provider.
