Schengen Visa for Non-Eu Spouse

I have a British/Irish dual nationality. I was born in the UK and have lived here all my life, but I hold an Irish passport through my parents.

My wife and I want to visit Italy for a short period. She is a non-EU national who has a Biometric Residence Permit.

In terms of a Schengen visa - can she apply as my family member, therefore needing to provide fewer documents, or does she need to apply for a standard tourist visa?
