Right of Abode for my Girlfriend

Post by sizz1806 » Mon Jan 08, 2018 10:16 am

Hi all.

First time poster here and I’m wondering if anyone can offer any indication of current processing times?

My girlfriend who is Australian applied to have her Certificate of Entitlement put in her new passport. She has the right of abode but obviously a new passport (she changed back to her maiden name) means she has had to apply all over again. She has the right of abode through her British monther (missed out on UK passport eligibility by 12 days as she was born on 19th December 1982) and also through her ex husband who is British. I know it states that it can take six months but I would have thought it it would be a simple case of checking her previous ROA reference number and reissuing a new certificate in her new passport.

She submitted her application and received acknowledgment of application and payment in mid November. The UK passport fiasco meant we missed a trip to Brugge already and I’m praying that a holiday booked to Finland on February 9th isn’t going to have to be cancelled as well.

Are there any useful email or telephone numbers to check application statuses? Even knowing she won’t get it back in time might allow us to reschedule our holiday without forfeiting thousands of pounds.

Thanks for any help you can offer guys.

All you can do is wait.

Is she aware that she could of course also apply to register as a British Citizen on form UKM, it costs £80 (assuming her mother is British UK born).

p.s. I have split your post to its own topic as the ROA thread you posted in is mostly about ROA for children from India.
