Can a British citizenship application made online for a 5 year old he cancelled?

Hi everyone

I have received my Permanent Residence card and I decided to apply for British citizenship for my 5 year old. Have I done a big mistake by doing this instead of applying for a British passport and not pay £973?

It depends on when the child was born, where the child was born (country) and the date you attained PR, all useful bits of information if any advice is expected.

If the child was born in the UK before you attained PR, then the child is not British and can therefore not apply directly for a passport. You will need to register the child as British first and yes, that means paying the substantial fee.

I got the PR card in December 2017 and I acquired the right for PR in 2016...another dilemma for me...which date should I state in case I apply for British naturalisation?

You should have received a letter stating the date you acquired PR, that is the one that is relevant.

So your child has to be registered as British and approved before you can apply for the child's British passport.

I did receive the letter and it states 2016.
The card itself states 2017...
The child was born in 2012...

I guess there is no turning back now..

You could have used the paper form and applied at NCS at the council and done a joint citizenship and passport application and you would have been able to keep all your original documents. Too late now though if you apply for MN1 registration online.
