I wish to apply for the ILR based on five years of the Tier 2 General visa. Which date do I take into account to calculate this five year period? The day my Tier 2 General leave to remain (I was transferring from Tier 1 PSW) was approved in the UK or the day the BRP was issued?

The issue date on the BRP. Whats the date on your BRP ?

Application approved 20-03-2013 but BRP issued a month plus later on 25-04-2013. So five years from 25-04-2013?

Your lawer is correct. The date of applicatin approved is same as BRP issue date.

As pointed out above, there was a delay in my BRP issuance as the original BRP never got to me on time... Hence the need for clarification. I have booked an in person appointment based on anniversary of the day of approval. Fingers crossed... Will let you all know how I got on and if my assumption on what date to follow was correct or not.

"Day of approval" did you apply in person? Is the date of approval different than the date of issue on your first BRP ?

No it is not. The BRP is usually dated a few days later or if there is a delay, a couple of weeks later than the premium appointment. The BRP is NOT produced at the premium service centre.
