BRP getting expired

I am a spouse of the British citizen and have been living in the UK for 2 years and 4 months. My BRP is getting expired in May.
My Question is, I am going to Pakistan for a while. Should I renew my BRP before leaving or in the month of May just close to the expiry date? is it safe?
And Can I show my expired English exam to renew BRP which I have shown while applying for the settlement visa?
Do I need to take Life in the Uk exam now?

You can't just 'renew' your BRP card. You have to apply for a visa extension, pay the visa fee and IHS fee and then wait for your new visa. How long are you going away for?

Did you do an English A1 level for your initial visa? If yes, then no you cannot use it. You need A2 level for a visa extension.

Do I need to take Life in the Uk exam now?

No, this is only for ILR.

I will be going to Pakistan for a month and will be back close to the expiry date of BRP which is the 18th of May 2018.
I gave IELTS test for visa application 3 years ago which is expired now.

You need to apply to extend your visa before your BRP card expires.

And Yes that is an A2 level English test.

3 years ago only A1 was required. You need to make sure as your application can be refused if you submit the wrong test.
