English Language Requirements for Citizenship

Post by MrsDoubt » Sat Jan 13, 2018 5:40 pm

Hi everybody.

I passed my IELTS test a few years ago (before november 2015).

I got a score above B1 in every skill.

Can i Still use this test/certificate for my BC aplicattion to proof my english language requirements? Do the test expire for this purpose?

Thank you.

Your flag indicates Germany. Are you an EU citizen holding a DCPR??

Maternity and BC

Post by MrsDoubt » Mon Jan 15, 2018 12:19 am

Hi,

I do not know if It is the right place to post my question but I have just read about similar case to mine...

I want to apply for BC. I am living for 6 almost 7 years in Scotland and i have been abroad 450 days in the last 5 years (Maybe a little less than that). However, i have spent 4,5 months abroad while I was on maternity leave (22nd june 2017 to 9th november 2017).

In this case, do i still have any chance to be succesfull if I apply for BC?

By the way, i would like to ask if I can use my IELTS (awarded in 2012) to proof english language requirements.

Thank you very much in advance

You need to have had less or equal to 90 days of absence from the UK in the last year before applying for BC. I would advise waiting till you have less than 90 days absence (earliest is 3 months before 9th November 2018 assuming you will continuously in the UK till then), hence 10th August 2018. Also beware of the rule that you would have to have been physically present in the UK n the exact day, 5 years before applying (or 3 years before if applying as spouse of BC).

You need a SELT approved IELTS category. I doubt one approved for academic or professional purposes would suffice. You can take a B1 test at IELTS or Trinity College London. If you hold a university degree in UK, it can serve as proof of english. Lastly, make sure you also hold a EEA(PR) certificate and a Life in the UK test certificate when you apply.

Good luck!

Do you have a Document Certifying Permanent Residence (DCPR)?
The absences you can manage by working out when you will have 90 days or less in the 12 months before applications.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
