Nationality Certificate and British Passport

Post by s_julka » Mon Jan 15, 2018 8:13 pm

I have applied for Nationality and British passport in Oct 2017. I am still waiting for the approval. I am planning to travel to India in March as I am pregnant and I want to deliver the baby and spend my whole maternity leave in India. I have 2 questions based on my circumstances:
1) Once I have received my nationality certificate, can I travel to India on Indian passport as I have indefinite leave to stay.

2) Do I have to apply for nationality ceremony or can I go to India and stay there for 1 year and when I come back then I can do the ceremony and apply for British passport.

Thanks

1. You are only British AFTER your ceremony. Once you become British, your ILR is void and you have to return your BRP.

2. No you cannot. You must attend your ceremony within 90 days fro. Your approval letter. If you do not, your application fails and you will have to apply again for citizenship and pay again.
