FLR FP application - no reply since October 2017

I am an Indian national, married to a British national for 15 yrs and also have a son, 14yrs old who is also British. We have been living in Canada and returned to live in uk last year. Son goes to school here and we have been settled here since the summer 2017.
I made application under FLR FP and received acknowledgment a week later but nothing since. I have not been asked to provide biometrics either. The acknowledgment letter said that my application was slightly complex and would take some time.
Any ideas on how long it can take and whether this is normal? Would I be able to get permission to work while they are processing the application if they take a long time? Very concerned so any help would be appreciated

How did you enter the UK, on what visa??

FLR(FP) applications are currently taking many months.

I entered on a visitors visa. Initially I came to visit but husband lost his job in Canada and we ended up having to stay here

You can expect a to wait a while, they are taking very long with these applications for applicants who enter the UK as visitors and try to stay.
