Is there a lower limit to the number of months that one can extend a Tier2 visa for?

I asked this because according to this page https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence-permits , it kind of seems like they are defining biometric residence permit (BRP) in terms of minimum of 6 months. Not sure your question is clear. Minimum extension as in how early you can extend your visa or what exactly is the issue with extension.

Why would you only want such a short extension?
