UKM - citizenship if born before 1983 to British mother

Post by darthspringbok » Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:14 pm

Hi,

I have read the UKM forms and I am relatively certain I qualify via my mother who is a British citizen. Please can someone offer advice?

My mother was born in Northern Rhodesia in 1952. Her parents both born in UK (London and Bristol). My Mother has always held a full UK passport. Her father allegedly registered her birth in the UK though we cannot find any paperwork (sadly he passed away 17 years ago so we cannot verify this and my grandmother is uncertain at 87 years old). My mother still carries a full UK passport with no restrictions.

My father born in 1946 in South Africa (held a UK and colonial passport as a child when immigrating to Southern Rhodesia pre1960). My father gainied Rhodesian citizenship pre-UDI (but records are unavailable)

I was born in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in 1978 (pre independance) and immigrated 1979 to South Africa with my parents and sisters (both born before me in Rhodesia).

Can someone tell me how we can get records of when my grandfatehr registered my mother's birth in the UK?
Can anyone advise if my sisters and I can claim citizenship via descent via UKM?

Thank you in advance.

Moderator 'secret.simon' would probably be best place to advise as he is quite knowledgeable on the various nationality rules.

If her birth was registered, perhaps try the links below if there are records.
