Hi
I was wondering if someone could help me. I got my citizenship approved early jan and my citizenship ceremony is late feb.
I want to change my name from *a b C D* to *a b c D* (surnames in caps). My last names are not hyphenated as per portuguese naming conventions but i only use the D as a last name in the uk expect for driving licence and home office related matters as it has to match my passport.
I read that as long as i can prove that Portugal wont allow my name change - and proved evidence of name for all purposes - (they wont due to there only being a maximum of 2 given names allowed - even if i tried to become *a c D* this wouldnt be allowed as the c name isnt on the list of approved given names) as i am a portuguese national and portuguese law would win over any foreign citizenship.
So my questions are:
1) can i change my name whilst waiting? (i want to get my passaport asap due to wanting to fly out early june and i appreciate the home office might delay my application) so i would want to change my driving licence now.
2) The portuguese embassy wont reply to my emails to get "proof" of these laws. Can i use website print outs from an offcial portuguese webiste stating these rules, make a translated copy and send them off together with the relavant british passport naming exceptions highlighted asking for a observation page?
3)when getting a deed poll, do i get one saying british national or foreign national (if i apply now for name change vs after ceremony i dont want the dvla to turn around and request proof and i can only send the certificate after i get it and they say i tried to do fraud or somthing by claiming British nationality when om still not one.
Thank you very
